For some time now urgent work has been required on St Cadmarch’s church tower, as water ingress over the years has left it in an unsafe condition.St. Cadmarch’s was recently listed by CADW as a Grade II* listed building for ‘its exceptional architectural interest as one of the best early C20 churches in Wales, illustrative of the Arts and Crafts approach to Gothic design’.This recognition of the church makes it essential for us to carry out the necessary refurbishment as soon as possible and consequently we will be holding special fundraising events as well as applying for grants for this.
We are hoping to make the tower safe and watertight, as well as install disabled toilet facilities and a kitchen and warm meeting room which could be a valuable resource for the local community. This refurbishment programme will retain the excellent acoustic and enable us to cater for more musical events. It will provide an area for Sunday School, Mothers' Union and Church meetings, as well as local community groups. A gallery above the meeting room would also provide additional seating needed for large services, particularly funerals.

St. Cadmarch’s Church Tower- Appeal Update
Our Committee was formed back in July 2004 with the aim of raising funds for the much-needed renovation of the Church Tower at St Cadmarch’s Church, Llangammarch Wells.
We have worked tirelessly since then applying for grants from various organisations, not all with positive outcomes, however we have obtained funding from 'The Welsh Church Act fund', 'The Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund', ‘The Llysdinam Trust’ and ‘The James Pantyfedwen Trust’ , as well as the Heritage Lottery Fund from whom we have received £49,600, although this amount now needs to be match funded by other sources within a specified time period.
We have applied to CADW but were unsuccessful with our first submission, although the application was considered to be very worthy. However we hope that a second application will meet with greater success.
We have worked extremely hard and have raised over £10,000 by holding various fundraising activities such as car boot sales, tabletop sales and bag packing. We have also received several kind donations from individuals, which are all very much appreciated.
We hope to commence work on the Tower, in phases, as soon as possible. New facilities will be incorporated into the tower such as a small room that will include a toilet (disabled) and a tea/coffee station, whilst of course addressing the much need structural work on the Tower. The additional facilities will be contained within the existing area of the tower and will enable small meetings to take place in a warm and dry environment. The toilet will be of particular benefit to those who come to the church for concerts and currently have to ask the Rector for access to the Rectory facilities!
We would like to thank all those who have supported us so far and those who will continue to support us.Yours support and help are greatly appreciated.
However, without the support of Church members and members of the local community, this project will not be fulfilled and the tower would be in danger of falling down, placing the future of the church in Llangammarch in jeopardy.Would you like to see the Village and Community without a Church??!!
Thanks must also go to all members of the Tower Committee for their hard work, dedication and commitment to this project.
Plans on the proposed works to the St. Cadmarch’s Church and Tower can be viewed at the back of the Church.
