THE IRFON AND WYE MINISTRY AREA
Letter from the Vicar
As I write this there is another threat of snow, not my favourite weather! It has however, made me think about what this month is about. We start with Candlemass, the celebration of the presentation of Christ at the Temple. This was the beginning of Mary’s public motherhood. Yet another milestone for this young mother who has the responsibility of the salvation of the world on her shoulders, or rather in her arms.
We too have a responsibility to bring Christ and the promise of salvation to others. It is easy in the winter to more or less hibernate but that doesn’t help us to help others. Nowadays we don’t need to leave our homes in order to do this. We can contact people by letter, telephone or more modern media. We can bring love and kindness to each other, which in turn brings the light of Christ.
As we battle bad weather and mood through this month, let us also work to let the light in. This will help us to prepare for the beginning of Lent on 6 March. We have a whole month to reflect on what we will be doing to bring ourselves closer to God during Lent.
Love and Blessings
